Local Birdingpal Contacts

Local Birdwatchers
Please note that most Birdingpals are serious birdwatchers. It is a privilege to contact them, and your message should reflect it. A local Pal does not get paid, but should he/she offer to take you out birding, using their own vehicle, it would be courteous to pay for the fuel. A lunch and/or a small gift would also be appropriate, something as simple as a souvenir of your country, or a pin from your local birding club.

Armenia lies along the part of The Caucasus Mountain chain situated between the Black and Caspian Seas, providing a Bio geographical bridge between Europe and Asia. The modern country is approximately 30,000 square kilometres, which is roughly the size of Belgium. The rich diversity of wildlife comes from the variety of landscapes at altitudes ranging from 370 – 4090 metres above sea level. It is possible to drive from semi-desert to Subalpine meadows in less than one hour – and as a result, a wide range of species can be encountered. We will visit arid zones, forests, rocky gorges, high peaks and riparian woodland to ensure the best possible opportunity to see as many species as possible. The terrain can sometimes be steep and at altitude, so a reasonable level of physical fitness will be required for this tour, especially if the snow level is still low, which will mean we have to climb higher to see some of the montane species. Thankfully, much of the country is free of biting insects, though the Armash Fishponds may have mosquitoes. While birding in Armenia you can expect to see between 180 – 220 species.
