Local Birdingpal Contacts

Local Birdwatchers
Please note that most Birdingpals are serious birdwatchers. It is a privilege to contact them, and your message should reflect it. A local Pal does not get paid, but should he/she offer to take you out birding, using their own vehicle, it would be courteous to pay for the fuel. A lunch and/or a small gift would also be appropriate, something as simple as a souvenir of your country, or a pin from your local birding club.

The Hainan Peacock Pheasant is an endangered taxon found only on Hainan Island of China. Due to lack of detailed taxonomic studies, whether it is a subspecies of the Grey Peacock Pheasant (Polyplectron bicalcaratum katsumatae) or a full species (Polyplectron katsumatae) remained unclear. Because the population density of the Hainan Peacock Pheasant is very low in its tropical forest on the island and the wild population is declining, it is now becoming severely endangered and should be ranked as the rarest species in the Order Galliformes in China.

I am an avid birder and student, currently serving a one-year volunteer commitment working with persons with developmental disabilities. Originally from Indiana in the US, I am now residing in Hong Kong in Sheung Shui, which is close to Hong Kong's most famous birding site, Mai Po Nature Reserve. I also am relatively close to Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve and am within walking distance of Long Valley. Anyone interested in birding these areas (or others) can contact me for information or to arrange an outing, as long as my schedule permits me to do so.
